Statement on diversity, identity and social justice

At East London Thinking Ltd:

  • We affirm the dignity, worth and value of all individuals, we celebrate diversity and the unique perspectives of people of all ages, abilities, races, cultures, religions, sexualities, gender identities, gender expressions, and positions in society.

  • We know that the material circumstances of people’s lives have a major impact on their capacity to thrive; including social factors such as inequality, austerity, white supremacy, and the misuse of power.

  • We recognise the disabling effect of how society is organised, and we understand neurodiversity as a source of capability and strength.

  • We acknowledge the historical mistreatment of, and present-day discrimination against, black people and those of other marginalised identities, and we recognise the ongoing traumatising effect of systemic prejudice.

  • We know that trans women are women, trans men are men, and non-binary people are non-binary; we know that all expressions of gender are valid.

  • We see how people with multiple marginalised identities experience more severe discrimination and deprivation. We note the need to listen; those experiencing adversity know best what they need to thrive.

  • We understand that a lack of money and time can be a barrier to people seeking support, and we take a flexible and sensitive approach to charging and scheduling to ensure our services are accessible to individuals and families.

  • We believe that psychology should be a part of the struggle for social justice and a tool for building a fairer and kinder society.

  •  We are committed to creating and maintaining an atmosphere of acceptance, trust, and safety; we welcome honest and open discussion of the issues people face, and we invite feedback to help us improve our sensitivity and understanding.
